There are so many epsom salt uses for your home. Let’s take a closer look at different ways to use epsom salts for health, beauty, your garden, and more.
I love Epsom salts! At just a few dollars for a large bag, I keep these healing salts on hand at all times (or if you can’t find them locally, you buy them in bulk online here). But as much as I use Epsom salts, I was surprised to see how many Epsom salt uses there really are!
20 Epsom Salt Uses
Here are some of the great ways to use Epsom salts (some might surprise you!).
For Health and Beauty
1. Detox Bath
Add two cups of Epsom salt to a hot bath. The magnesium sulfate in Epsom salt draws out toxins through the skin. Read more about making an Epsom salt detox bath here.
2. Facial Scrub
Epsom salts are perfect for exfoliating your face! Mix with a gentle cleanser and massage into your face for a minute or two. It’ll make your skin smooth as silk, without being too harsh.

3. Blackhead Clearing Mask
Use a fork to beat together Epsom salts with an egg white. Apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes. Rinse away with warm water and a washcloth to remove blackheads and tighten pores.
4. Stress Relief Bath
Did you know the magnesium in Epsom salts can have an anti-stress effect on the body? Mix two cups of Epsom salts plus 10 drops of lavender essential oil and 10 drops of chamomile essential oil in warm water for a calming bath.

5. Soften Dry, Cracked Feet
Soak your feet in hot water with Epsom salts (about 1/2 cup per gallon of water) for 20-30 minutes. Then scrub with a loofah or pumice stone to remove dry skin and reveal soft feet!

6. Deep Clean Hair and Scalp
Mix a tablespoon of Epsom salts with your shampoo to nourish and deep clean your hair and scalp.
7. Get Beach Waves
Want that luscious, wavy beach hair? Dissolve a tablespoon of Epsom salt in a cup of warm water and spritz all over your hair. Scrunch and fluff to get those wavy locks (if you have really straight hair, braid your hair and leave it for an hour, then take out the braids and scrunch your hair for soft waves).
For Natural Remedies
8. Ease Constipation
To ease constipation, add 1/4 teaspoon to 1 full teaspoon of Epsom salts in a cup of warm lemon water with honey. You can also sprinkle a little in your coffee or tea every day as a preventative measure.
9. For Achy Joints, Bruises and Sprains
Soak in a warm bath with 2 cups of Epsom salts to relieve pain in joints, bruises and sprains.
10. Splinter Removal
Soak the area in Epsom salts and hot water to help draw out the splinter and make removal easier.
11. Soothe Bug Bites
Dissolve 1/4 cup of Epsom salts in a cup of warm water. Cool the mixture in the refrigerator. Apply with a cotton ball to bug bites to soothe pain and itching.
12. Relieve Mild Sunburn
Soak in a warm (not hot) bath with two cups of Epsom salts to relieve pain from sunburn. Apply a mixture of aloe and coconut oil afterwards to aid the healing process.
For Home and Garden
13. Get Rid of Racoons
Apparently those little critters don’t like the way Epsom salts smell! Sprinkle some around your outdoor garbage cans to keep racoons away.
14. Remove Burnt Food on Pots and Pans
Overcook that oatmeal? Scrub out your pots and pans with a few tablespoons of Epsom salts, a little soap, and hot water to remove burnt food easily.
15. Scrub Tubs and Showers
Use a paste of Epsom salts and castile liquid soap to scrub away soap scum and grime from tubs and showers.
16. Prevent Garden Slugs
Sprinkle Epsom salts around your plants to keep slugs away.
17. Green Up the Lawn
The magnesium in Epsom salts is great for your lawn! Spread about 1 cup per 100 square feet of lawn and lightly water it into the soil.
18. Grow Better Flowers, Fruits and Veggies
Whether you’re growing roses or tomatoes, sprinkling a few tablespoons on Epsom salts at the base of your plants can keep them healthy and maximize yield.
19. Tree Stump Removal
Drill a few holes into the tree stump, fill each hole with Epsom salt, and then add water to each hole. The stump should begin to decay by itself within a few weeks.
20. Keep Houseplants Healthy
Add 1-2 tablespoons of Epsom salts per gallon of water to nourish your houseplants.
